United Ryukyu Kempo Alliance KATA

U.R.K.A. Kata

After the initial creation of what we now know as martial arts, different organizations began to branch out. The masters of each organization then went on to make changes to the kata they practices in order to emphasize their own, unique understanding of the techniques in each kata. This individualization created prejudice among the different organizations.

Oyata-Sensei, aspired to understand the multitude of different uses of each technique that come from each kata's most basic form, without prejudice. The idea that a kata is just a series of movements that can be used in as many ways as an individual can think to apply them in.

This concept makes the study of each kata more complex as opposed to practicing each motion as a set movement, which greatly reduces the value of the kata and each person's ability to practice it.
